March birthstone is Aquamarine.  From deep teal to pale blue this stunning gemstone is appealing to many and looks beautiful whether set in rose gold, yellow gold or platinum. My current favourite cut is an Octagon shape. In the industry we call it octagon cut instead of emerald cut in order to differentiate it from Emeralds which are green precious stones.

Recently I have been setting Aquamarine stones in an East West facing direction, which brings a contemporary look to rings and pendants. By surrounding them with a halo of either diamonds or coloured gemstones such as Pink Sapphires, or deep Blue Sapphires, this creates a colour contrast or a hue of different blues, helping accentuate the colour of the centre stone and making the design wearable everyday yet retaining a strong sense of luxury.

Aquamarine is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale of hardness, meaning it is softer than Diamonds but harder than Opals. So you can wear Aquamarine everyday but treat it with care.

Here are some of my recent designs using Aquamarine.
