Redesign and restoration
Honour its story and create its next chapter.
Inherited jewellery carries memories that deserve to be preserved. Whether you would like to restore a treasured piece or transform its gemstones into something entirely new, Babette will help you explore the possibilities. Each jewel is considered individually, taking account of its condition, history, sentimental importance and how you would like to wear it today.
RESTORE AND PRESERVE AND ORIGINAL JEWEL
Not every heirloom needs to be completely redesigned. If you love the original piece, restoration may help preserve its character and make it wearable again. Depending on its condition, this could involve securing loose gemstones, repairing worn settings, replacing missing stones or carefully refinishing the jewellery. Babette will advise which details can be retained while respecting the appearance and history of the original design.
RESET HEIRLOOM GEMSTONES
Diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and other gemstones can often be carefully removed from dated or damaged settings and placed at the heart of a new bespoke jewel. Babette can create a contemporary setting in platinum, yellow gold, white gold or rose gold, designed around the shape and character of your stones. Additional natural or lab-grown diamonds and coloured gemstones can also be sourced to complement them
CREATE A MEANINGFUL NEW JEWEL
Redesigning heirloom jewellery allows its gemstones to become something better suited to your life and style. A family diamond could become a bespoke engagement ring, stones from a brooch might form a pendant, or several smaller gems could be combined in a new ring or pair of earrings. The result is a meaningful, one-of-a-kind jewel that connects its family history with a new generation.

FAQ
Can old or inherited jewellery be redesigned?
Can all heirloom gemstones be reused?
This depends on each gemstone’s type, condition and suitability for the proposed design. Babette will examine the stones before advising whether they can be safely removed and reset.
What is the difference between restoring and redesigning jewellery?
Restoration aims to preserve the appearance and character of the original jewel while making it secure and wearable again. Redesigning involves removing suitable gemstones and using them in a new piece created around your style and requirements.
Can additional diamonds or gemstones be added?
Yes. Babette can source diamonds and coloured gemstones to complement your heirloom stones, depending on your preferred design and budget.
What can heirloom gemstones be transformed into?
Heirloom stones can be reset into rings, pendants, earrings and other bespoke pieces. Several smaller gemstones from different jewels may also be brought together in one new design or a large piece with multiple stones could be turned into multiple pieces of jewellery.
How much does it cost to redesign heirloom jewellery?
The cost depends on the new design, chosen precious metal, complexity of the setting and whether additional gemstones are required. Babette will work with your budget and provide a quotation before making begins.
How long does heirloom jewellery redesign take?
Bespoke pieces generally take approximately six to eight weeks after the design and quotation have been approved. More detailed designs or specialist restoration work may require longer while simple pieces may be done more quickly.
What should I bring to my consultation?
Bring the original jewellery or loose gemstones, together with any certificates or information you have about them. Photographs, design inspiration and an idea of your preferred budget are also helpful.
